Video Transcript for Applying the Quality Matters Rubric

Hello and welcome to the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric training which is offered through Quality Matters a globally recognized organization which offers professional development training. This course is facilitated by CSU faculty who have obtained the QM facilitator certifications. My name is Ashley Skylar and I manage the CSU Online Course Services Program which is supported by the Office of the Chancellor.

The course is offered in a 3-week format and you will engage with ten modules in the course to learn more about the QM rubric and annotations, the importance of having measurable course and module objectives, understand the six QM alignment standards, and the peer-review process for evaluating the quality of the design of an online course. In the course you will also have hands-on experience applying select QM standards to determine met/not met for objectives, as well as practice alignment and misalignment between objectives, assessments, activities, instructional materials and course tools in a sample course.

Additionally, you will review a course and look closely at the course and a set of module objectives to determine if they are measurable, written clearly, stated clearly, and suited to the level of the course. Lastly, you will get some hands-on practice writing helpful recommendations which is very important as many of us provide feedback to peers in a faculty mentoring model. This course is also a prerequisite for anyone looking to obtain the QM Peer Reviewer certification course. Keep in mind that while this course is self-paced, QM’s policy is firm in that you must complete Modules 1-5 by mid/late week 2 or you will not be allowed to continue in the workshop as it is important to follow the course schedule as peer-to-peer collaboration is integral to your success and satisfaction in the course. We look forward to working alongside you and your facilitators as we build a community of sharing and learning together.
