Video Transcript for Reviewing Courses Using the QLT Rubric

Hello and welcome to Reviewing Courses Using the QLT Rubric. My name is Betsy Eudey and I work at Stanislaus State as a Professor of Gender Studies, the Interim Collaborative Online International Learning Coordinator, and serve as a Faculty Fellow in the Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. I use she/her pronouns.

I’m really happy to be sharing this professional development training opportunity with you. Over the next few weeks you will engage with twelve modules designed to help you become more familiar with the nine QLT sections, and to practice engaging in course review utilizing the QLT Rubric. You will have the opportunity to review a sample course, and to utilize the QLT rubric to rate it as meeting or not meeting specific objectives. While the ratings activity is valuable on its own, one of the things I like most about this course is the opportunity to compare and discuss your ratings with others, gaining insights into the ways we interpret the evidence and provide feedback to faculty. I find this process very helpful for understanding the kinds of evidence needed to meet an objective, our biases and preferences for where and how information is presented in a course, and for learning better ways to prepare and facilitate our own courses.

Upon successful completion of the course you’ll be more prepared to engage in self- and peer- review of online and/or hybrid courses.

While this course is self-paced, it is important to follow the course schedule as peer-to-peer collaboration is integral to your success and satisfaction in the course. The syllabus indicates when modules will become available, and the expected completion dates. Please do contact me if you find you are falling behind, and we’ll discuss strategies for successful course completion.

While this is an asynchronous course, there are optional Zoom meetings where you can ask questions and learn more about QLT and the course review process. I’m available to meet with you outside of these Zoom sessions if it will support your learning and progress in the course. My contact information is posted on the course homepage.

Below you will find links to the Syllabus and Start Here Modules - please begin with these and then move to Module One. You will find links to the Modules on this homepage as well as by selecting the Module icon on the left navigation panel.

I look forward to our building a community of sharing and learning as we progress through the course.
