Advanced QLT Course in Teaching Online Testimonials

  • Overall, I’ve been impressed and inspired to view others’ activity/assignment examples. I was aware of most of the tools shared in this course, but I hadn’t seen some in action before.
  • I feel like this course was a really strong survey of all the possibilities and while I did practice a few of them and implemented a few of them, I am walking away with the knowledge that there is so much more I want to do!
  • I learned about a whole bunch of fun, interesting, interactive tools that I didn’t even know existed. Not only did I enjoy trying them out myself, but I loved seeing them showcased by all of you in our discussion threads. It was so inspiring to see everyone’s work.
  • I really enjoyed the interactions and camaraderie with everyone on this course. It was so much fun to learn, create, and share out together. This is something that I rarely get the opportunity to do with peers in my department, much less across departments or universities.
  • This was one of, if not the BEST online teaching workshop I’ve taken. Thank you to the course authors for a really good experience. You’ve certainly led by example!
  • Looking forward to continuing developing the changes and modifications in the courses. In one of the courses we plan a meeting with all the instructors teaching the course and I cannot wait to share the information with them!
  • This QLT course has provided me with additional ideas of ways to approach assignments in order to address diversity and inclusion.
  • For me, the workshop was an eye-opener because it has been difficult to foster creativity due to budgets along with the challenge to find workaround ways to attain that creativity. The QLT workshop made it possible by sampling and reviewing a variety of tools available for possible adoption.
  • Thank you all for what you do for our students and for your dedication to creating wonderful courses for students. I am honored to have been a part of this group and learn from you this semester.
  • The practices learned throughout this course restore some of the elements of innate learning. We are social beings, and learn best when we can “do” and connect with one another.
  • To help colleagues, I’m on the department curriculum committee, and we are in the process of looking at each other’s syllabi. I’d like to share what I’ve learned with them, and of course promote this QLT curriculum 😀
  • I learned that the tools like PlayPosit are fun to use and even make too :) I was a little hesitant because of the potential setup time or learning curve, but I was pleasantly surprised. GoReact was easy too (after I realized what went wrong with an initial glitch).
  • After completing Module 5 and using PlayPosit, I have come to realize the value of active learning for online courses.
  • One thing that stood out to me is that I learned more than I was expecting to. What I mean is that through the modules my focus shifted to active learning techniques and inclusivity practices.
  • I have had an amazing time in this course and I’m so glad it will be open for the rest of the year! There’s been such valuable content and new technologies introduced; I’m looking forward to reading and trying more of the tools over the summer in more depth when I’ll have more time to revamp my courses.
  • I’ve taken a lot of professional development courses related to teaching and I’ve found this one the most useful by far! I’m so glad I decided to enroll despite it being a busy part of the quarter. Thanks so much again for such a fabulous course!
  • I was particularly impressed (and truly, blown away!) by the various tools and technologies to embed active learning within asynchronous lectures and readings. (Kelly Bennion, Cal Poly )
  • I liked learning about and practicing some tools that I hadn’t had a chance to work with before, and to see some of the ways others are using tools that I haven’t tried and/or aren’t yet supported at my own campus.
  • This workshop was exceptionally good at identifying and laying out some new tools that didn’t overwhelm me. Finding the right tools is really critical to developing a great asynchronous course.
  • I learned there are a lot of ways to incorporate active learning into my asynchronous courses! One thing I enjoyed about this workshop was that it eased me into the overwhelming amount of tools that are out there and I knew these were ones that had been vetted and had been successful for others. Adding the active learning elements doesn’t have to be overwhelming or intimidating.
  • I thought doing a QLT Self–Review was an excellent way to see what improvements were needed in my course.
  • The QLT Self-Review helped me better define the class learning goals and create a clear distinction between activities and assignments. Through the activities presented in this class, I accomplished far more than I anticipated and leaving the course with a batch of creative new ideas that will create a more engaged classroom, I’m grateful for everyone’s gracious contributions.
  • I met my goals as I learned ways to help improve my classes for student success. This class reviewed numerous wonderful options for improving the class, from design, assessment, to active learning, and I am excited to adopt some of my new skills. Thank you all for such an innovative and enriching class. I have enjoyed the lessons, the feedback and the comradery as well all learned important skills.
  • At first, I would like to thank our facilitator Mary for her efforts and being a remarkable and wonderful facilitator. Second, I would like to thank all my peers for sharing so much information and providing feedback. I hope this is not a goodbye and I hope to see you again in future courses. This course was a great experience, and I am grateful.
  • I learned there are so many options and resources for active learning! It can take the form of adding questions into a video (EdPuzzle), recording your screen and yourself during a GoReact video, or group annotation with Persuall. I personally plan to use EdPuzzle because I use a lot of pre-made videos from other sites, and that platform is a great tool to add my personalized course questions into it. Thank you to everyone who gave me feedback, brought new insight, or provided new tools to the course! I’ve learned so much from you all and wish you the best for the rest of this semester :)
  • I realized that there are so many tools available that I was not aware of. I thought I knew how to deliver in an online mode, but I did not realize that almost all were passive learning. This course has taught me the importance of active learning, and student engagement.
