Using Flipgrid, students record a 1-minute or less critique of a film and then respond to the critique of another student. The interactivity made possible through the use of Flipgrid, helps students to feel more connected as they learn about other films they may not have the opportunity to view.

This presentation was updated from passive to an active learning activity using a Ted-Ed lesson which includes: Watch, Think, Dig Deeper and Discuss. Aspects to the video lesson to encourage more engagement with the video before and during class. I particularly like the opportunity to link the questions to a section of the video as well as the opportunity to seek student input in short-answer questions. Ted-Ed was user friendly and its application is broad.

Teaching Race & Racism and Perspectives on Gender means that there will be many different points of view and some may even be contentious. To help facilitate a safe and respectful learning environment the Diversity Statement is included in the Syllabus and on Blackboard. This statement is reviewed together as a class to promote understanding and mutual consideration.
