Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is poised to be a disruptive force in U.S. higher education, with implications to all facets of its institutions. With the potential scale and scope of disruption due to generative AI, ongoing training and support is critical to prepare faculty, staff, and students for the adoption, integration, and evaluation of these technologies. The graph below shows the completions of the CSU Generative AI Course – AI Tools for Teaching and Learning (developed by CSU Monterey Bay) which was first offered December 2023 and continues to be offered each semester for CSU Faculty and Staff.

CSU Online Course Services program has been providing the CSU Generative AI Course – AI Tools for Teaching and Learning for CSU Faculty and Staff since December 2023. Below is a graph depicting completions of the course by each campus.

CSU Online Course Services efforts have resulted in a significant and growing number of faculty and staff who have completed training in exemplary online practices, become certified reviewers of online courses, and/or have their fully online courses certified meeting established quality standards.

The graph below shows this growth over the past twelve years. The completions include CSU managed trainings and select campus hosted trainings (it is not inclusive of all campus hosted trainings).

CSU Online Course Services has adopted two rubrics that support campus efforts and faculty who are developing online and hybrid courses across the CSU. Those rubrics are the CSU Quality Learning & Teaching (QLT) Rubric and the Quality Matters (QM) Rubric. Below is a graph depicting the number of QLT and QM courses completed by each campus (it is not inclusive of all campus hosted trainings).
